Our annual Maypole celebration is a lovely family event which is being held at Overbury School from about 1.30pm. A procession from School and around the village will be led by the pupils in Year 5 starting at around 1.15pm; the Town Crier, May Queen and the Page Boy (child from Reception). The children dance around the Maypole and sing for approximately 1-1½ hours. Once the children have finished singing and dancing there will be a few, quick, presentations. There will be refreshments for all in the school hall after the Maypole singing and dancing has finished. (Remember you will need some money as this is an important part of The Friends’ annual fundraising.)
What’s Maypole All About?
Event Information
All pupils wear school uniform in the morning and bring their Maypole clothes for the afternoon.
For the girls: a summer garden/party dress with white, ankle socks, white pumps/plimsolls preferred (but you can use black footwear if you don’t have white) and a cardigan as well just in case it’s cool.
For the boys: long, grey shorts, long dark grey socks, long or short sleeved white shirt with a tie and black footwear. With regards to a tie, you can purchase a school tie from Amazon (please search for: “Striped Kids Tie for School/Elastic Loop Primary School ties for Girls and Boys”). The tie should be green with a single white (or silver) stripe; or you could borrow one from our limited School supply for a £5 deposit. Alternatively, we are happy for you to use a smart tie from home.
