Our Governors

As Chair of Governors I am delighted to welcome you to the website of Overbury Church of England First School.

As governors we seek to support the school and work together with staff, local authority and the Church to ensure that our pupils receive the very best education and that each one reaches their full potential.

As a school we value involvement with the local community and are keen to support and foster these links. As we are a church school both staff and governors feel strongly that the children should be nurtured in an active Christian environment and we are pleased that we have close links with our local church of St. Faith’s.

Overbury is a vibrant school with happy children and the governors have pleasure in contributing to its undoubted success. I hope that you enjoy browsing our website and that it will give you an idea about school life at Overbury, which is always invigorating, enjoyable and, ultimately, very rewarding.

What the Governors do

At Overbury CofE First School, our governors play a vital role in supporting the school’s vision, values, and development. They ensure that every child has access to high-quality education in a safe, inclusive and caring environment rooted in Christian principles.

Governors provide strategic leadership, working closely with the Headteacher and staff to monitor progress, set priorities, and make decisions that help the school continue to thrive. While their role is one of oversight rather than daily management, they are actively involved in the life of the school and bring valuable experience from a wide range of backgrounds.

The governing body meets at least four times a year and is supported by two key committees:

  • Teaching & Learning Committee – responsible for curriculum planning, staffing matters, and overseeing the school development plan.

  • Resources Committee – focused on finance, health & safety, school premises, and marketing.

Each governor also takes on responsibility for one or more specific areas, ensuring strong support across all aspects of school life. These include:

  • Safeguarding and Special Educational Needs (SEND)

  • Health & Safety and E-safety

  • Finance and Sustainability

  • Curriculum subjects – Literacy, Numeracy, R.E., Worship, ICT and the Arts

  • Looked After Children and Inclusion

Together, our governors are committed to ensuring that both pupils and staff feel supported, valued, and encouraged to achieve their best.

If you have any questions, please contact one of our parent governors, or the chair or vice-chair.
