Spiritual Zone

Overbury is a Church of England school and everything we do is founded on a Christian ethos of respect and love for our neighbours and the wider world. We have daily assemblies, some of which are taken by visitors including our Foundation Governor, Canon Susan Renshaw. We also worship in our local church, St Faith’s, at least two or three times a term - including our first assembly each term and events such as Harvest Festival, Christmas Carol Service, Christingle, Easter Service, Ascension Day, and Leaver’s Service. We are delighted that we now have our own local Open the Book Group, who help our pupils to further understand the bible through interactive stories in assembly.

Although, we are a Church of England school, we also acknowledge, learn about, and respect other cultures and religions, celebrating festivals such as Diwali, Eid and Sukkot, so that our pupils develop their understanding and empathy to all people.

The 2015 Church Inspection Report

Some highlights of this report are:

"Distinctively Christian values impact on the lives of all members of the school community which is evident in the behaviour and attitude of pupils who show the utmost love and respect for each other."

"Pupils have a strong awareness of social justice and diversity, rooted in Christian values, through their school link with Morogoro in Tanzania, and are also establishing links with a multi-cultural school in Birmingham which will enable them to experience a multi-cultural environment."

"The harmonious and supportive relationships between all members of the school community are clearly rooted in the school’s Christian values and contribute to a school which is both distinctive and highly effective."

PRAYER SPACE

A special Prayer Space area was set up in school which each class was able to visit to explore Christian Spirituality though creative, reflective and interactive activities.

Everyone was able to ask questions and express their own thoughts considering ‘My World, Our World, The Whole World’. We thank Ruth West, Lynn Satchell and Michael Pusey for all their guidance, inspiration and hard work – Everyone loved it!
